Up Close/At a Distance

With the support of Theater Mitu and the New York Community Trust’s Van Lier Fellowship Program.

Up Close/At a Distance explores the tensions between legibility and illegibility — particularly in relation to how bodies move through space/time. It aims to untangle ideas around visibility, mapping and corporeal knowledge.

Untitled (in process): Cameras are rigged to my body, simultaneously obscuring and revealing it. Mapping projections to geo-located satellite images emphasizes the disorientation and disembodiment of satellite perspectives.

American Eyes (Nevada/Florida/Afghanistan) (in process): Transcript of US military radio transmissions and cockpit conversations during a drone strike in central Afghanistan on February 21st 2011, obtained by the Los Angeles Times Through a Freedom of Information Act request, printed on a scroll hanging from the grid, so that these conversations, that took place across radio waves, take up physical space (further documentation coming soon).
